293 Units Of Blood Donated Through Two Days Of The Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns ‘n Hoses Blood Drive

(KCCR) — Tuesday was a record breaking day for blood donations and participation in the 15th Annual Tyler Wilcox Memorial Guns and Hoses Blood Drive. Abbie Arneson with Vitalant Blood Services says big numbers were put up by the Pierre/Fort Pierre area Tuesday…

“Well, you walked in and I started dancing…so, there we go!  It was a great, great day!!  In fact, we set a record for the largest amount of donors that have ever signed in and tried to donate in Pierre and Fort Pierre in one day, so we had 175 people through the door wanting to donate and that just, I can’t stop smiling, it’s incredible!”
Turn out after the first day on Monday was lower than expected so the rebound on Tuesday was welcomed…

“You know, I think it’s because people hear it on the first day and then we keep talking about it and we keep talking about it some more and I think people come back to their offices, their home, to their school.  We had a father and son come in and donate today for the first time together and the word gets out and now we just need to finish…STRONG and after yesterday I  really didn’t think that we would come close to what we did last year and I don’t know; it just makes me very happy.”
Going into the final day the Hoses continue to hold a lead over the Guns, but not by much…

“Everybody always wants to know; right now the Hoses are up 149 to the Guns 134 so I know they’re gonna want you to show up we just…let’s keep the good times going.”
A total of 185 units of blood were donated Tuesday leaving Vitalant 107 units short of hitting the goal of 400 units of blood. So far 293 units have been donated. Last year was a record for overall donations with 420 collected.
