Sunday, July 31, 2016

The South Dakota Legislatures Interim planning committee will hold their third meeting of the summer Monday in Pierre.

The committee continues work on the performance management review process of state departments, which was enacted by this year’s legislature.

Committee Chairman Scott Munsterman of Brookings says the morning discussions will consist of discussion on how to better prepare state prison inmates for the workforce after life behind bars.

Munsterman adds that through the last few years, the committee’s main focus has been workforce development, and they didn’t want to leave prison inmates out of the conversation.

Munsterman adds that they will discuss how the state can possibly develop more career and technical opportunities inside of the prisons.

In addition, they will be meeting with the secretaries of four different state departments in the afternoon. Munsterman says his ultimate goal is to get the departments to be run more efficiently. The meeting begins at 10:00 A.M. in room 413 of the Capitol and it is open to the public.
