(WNAX) — The Lobbyist for the South Dakota Soybean Association and Pork Producers Council says legislators should let the compromise worked out last year on the non-meandered waters issue work. Lorin Pankratz says it should have a chance to work prior to making any changes to it.
He says addressing sportsmen’s concerns with the compromise should be looked at separately from what’s in place now.
Pankratz says while it’s important to allow sportsmen access to waters for hunting and fishing, it’s also important to respect landowner’s rights.
Pankratz says his group supports the Governor’s legislation, Senate Bill 24 that would sunset the non-meandered waters law in 2021 rather than in 2018. The original law called for a 2021 sunset until the special session of lawmakers changed it to this year.
