Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre is dealing with water main break. Sigrid Wald, the Commutations and Public Relations Coordinator for St. Mary’s says the break happened around 1:30 Thursday morning, just outside the southwest exit of the Hospital. The break is only impacting the hospital building. Complicating the repair of the main is that the break sits directly below an electrical transformer. A temporary water line bypass is in place to supply water to the north building; however the smaller replacement line is providing reduced water pressure. The break is having an impact on the Kidney Dialysis Unit, which requires a specific level of water pressure to provide treatment. Those treatments have been temporarily suspended and patients are being sent to Chamberlain for treatment. All other patient services are continuing as normal. Avera staff and local contractors are working to repair the break. St. Mary’s is asking for understanding and patience in order to provide comfortable care to their patients.
