(KCCR) — The National Rural Health Association has named Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre as one of the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the United States. Eight different factors were used to select the Top-20 rural community hospitals including inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, patient outcomes, patient perspectives, cost, charge and financial stability. The ranking is based on an evaluation by the Chartis Center for Rural Health Care. The Chartis Center used the iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index in determining Avera St. Mary’s as one of the Top-20 prospective payment system hospitals in county. Avera St. Mary’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mikel Holland says the hospital is proud of its physicians and staff for contributing to the designation. He adds the community can count on Avera St. Mary’s to deliver the services they need now and into the future. The Top-20 hospitals on the list will be recognized at the N-R-H-A’s Rural Hospital Innovation Summit in Atlanta, Georgia on May 9th.
