Baumgart To Be Inducted To The South Dakota Transportation Hall Of Honor

(KCCR) — The man behind River Cities Transit is set to be honored by the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Executive Director Ron Baumgart has been chosen to be inducted into the South Dakota Transportation Hall of Honor. Baumgart started at River Cities Transit in 2001. Since then, he has grown the service from four vehicles and around 22-thousand riders to over one-hundred vehicles and over 367-thousand riders. Baumgart has other honors such as River Cities Transit being named 2013 America’s Transit of the Year by the Community Transit Association. Under Baumgart’s guidance River Cities Transit was the first rural transit provider in South Dakota to use a computerized scheduling and dispatch system. Baumgart is also being recognized for his willingness to help other transit agencies become more efficient, reliable and independent. An induction banquet for Baumgart will be announced at a later date. The Transportation Hall of Honor recognizes those who have made lasting, valuable or unique contributions to South Dakota’s transportation system.
