Bill To Tack Fee On To Hybrid Cars Moves To House Floor

A bill that would charge an annual fee to electric hybrid vehicle owners passed out of the House Transportation Committee Thursday. District 24 State Representative Mary Duvall of Pierre is a sponsor of the measure. She says the 50-dollar fee that would be tacked on during annual registration of the vehicle is not about holding back renewable energy…

Duvall says the idea of a tax or fee on electric vehicles is not new. It came up during discussions on Senate Bill 1 a major transportation funding bill approved in 2015…

She says some recent transportation news is pushing the reasoning for the bill…

The bill passed out of the House Transportation Committee on an eight to three vote and is now headed for consideration by the full House.
