Governor Says Corruption Claims Coming From GEAR UP Audit Committee Wrong

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) -- The Government Operations and Audit Committee of the South Dakota legislature will again discuss the GEAR UP program at their meeting next month. That program has been under investigation in connection to embezzlements at the former Mid Central Educational Cooperative in Platte.
Governor Dennis Daugaard says charges of corruption coming from committee members are wrong.

Daugaard says Education Department Secretary Melody Schopp, and Finance Director Tammy Darnall should not be targets of the committee.

The Committee has asked Schopp to appear again and answers questions about GEAR UP. Daugaard says her appearance would be pointless.
