Pierre Bandits Take 12U State Championship

The Pierre Bandits took Sunday's South Dakota State 12U Championship game in dramatic fashion, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Brandon Valley Black.
The game was tied at six with the Bandits batting in the bottom of the sixth when Jack Merkwan doubled off of Brandon, driving in one run. Pierre Bandits collected 14 hits and Brandon Valley Black had eight in the high-scoring affair Brandon Valley Black took an early lead in the first inning. After Brandon Valley scored one run in the top of the second, Pierre answered with one of their own. Pierre answered when Josh Switzer singled, driving in one run. The Bandits scored three runs in the third inning. Pierre knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bandits scored one run when Jonathan Lyons singled with two outs in the fifth inning. Pierre scored three runs in the third inning. Pierre's big inning was driven by a single by Jayden Wiebe a wild pitch and double by Lyons. Brandon Valley scored three runs in the fifth inning.
Lincoln Kienholz earned the win for Pierre. He pitched three innings, giving up three runs, six hits, striking out six, and walking one. Jackson Edman started the game for the Bandits. He tossed three innings, surrendering three runs, two hits, and striking out four. Lyons, Brecken Krueger, Kienholz, and Wiebe each collected multiple hits for Pierre. Wiebe and Lyons each drove in two runs to lead the Bandits.
Pierre went 6-0 in state tournament play with additional wins over SEBA, Yankton Bucks, Yankton Twins, Mitchell and Brookings. The Bandits finish the season with a record of 18-3-1.
