(KCCR) — Pierre police are investigating after a body was found in a car that was recovered from the Missouri River. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department notified Pierre police that a submerged object, consistent with a vehicle was located near the exit of Down’s Marina in the water. Dive Squad members from the Pierre Fire Department located the object and confirmed it was a vehicle. They then assisted with removing the vehicle from the river. A body was located inside the vehicle as police began their investigation. Walz says the vehicle may have been submerged in the river for an extended period of time. The body has been taken to Sioux Falls so an autopsy could be performed to determine a cause of death and positive identification of the body. The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation.
