The Warner Monarchs handed the Sully Buttes Charger girls their first loss of the season, a 50-35 defeat of Sully Buttes Saturday in Warner.
Laurie Rogers—the 6’2” center for the Monarchs, was unstoppable down low, outrebounding the Chargers, and getting second chances on missed shots, and low post scoring opportunities, and ended the night with 22 points. Haylee Hanson added twelve for Warner—with four three point shots.
For Sully Buttes, senior Rachel Guthmiller was the leading scorer, with 20 points for the game. The Chargers record now sits at 12-1, while Warner is at 12-3 on the season.
In the second game, the roles were reversed, as the Sully Buttes boys low post scoring dominated the Monarchs, and a big second quarter helped the Chargers breeze to a 56-38 victory, to salvage a doubleheader split. Jacob Howard was the leading scorer, with 15 points, while Lincoln Jordre added twelve. Jordre had four points at the half.
The Chargers exploded offensively in the second quarter—outscoring Warner 26-7 in the stanza, while Nick Wittler added fourteen points for the game—all in the second quarter.
The Sully Buttes boys increased their record to 11-1, while Warner slips to 12-2. The Charger girls and boys will be in action with doubleheaders this week—a home matchup Tuesday, hosting Jones County, and Friday in Gettysburg against Potter County.
