Using a strong defense, the Hanson Beaverettes shut down the Sully Buttes Chargers—but had to hold on in the last four minutes, to pick up a 33-23 victory at the Hanson Classic Saturday in Mitchell.
Hanson shut down the Chargers leading scorer, Lauren Wittler, and held her to just two points, and used an aggressive defense to put pressure on the ball handlers of Sully Buttes to slow down the Chargers. Sully Buttes only had 8 points at the half, but Hanson only scored 18 points at the midway break themselves, thanks to a strong Charger defense.
Elizabeth Arend led all scorers with 13 points for Hanson, while the Chargers had balanced scoring, with Angela Guthmiller leading with eight points, eighth grader Ally Wittler adding six, and Jill Hofer with five points.
The Charger girls, now 5-4 on the season, will be at home Tuesday for a girls boys doubleheader of basketball, hosting powerhouse Timber Lake. You can catch the coverage on your home for Charger sports—Country 95.3FM and pierrecountry.com.
