In a contest of relative youth and inexperience against veteran players in a successful program, the Sully Buttes Chargers were swept by the Miller Rustlers 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 Thursday night at the armory in Miller.
The Chargers showed improvement against a very talented Rustler team, but had too many mental lapses defensively, and the court savvy Rustlers cashed in on shots that seemed to land in between the front and back rows, and would string point runs to seal the Chargers fate.
Leading the way for Miller, senior Storm Johnson, a 5’10” middle hitter, in both kills and aces, while Alvena Batin was tops in sets, and quick tips over the Chargers defense.
For Sully Buttes—now 1-2 on the season—Tailynn Bradford was leading setter, and kill shots were provided by sophomore Allyson Wittler, senior Jill Hofer, and sophomore Lydia Hill. Sully Buttes did well on keeping service errors down, committing four, to Millers eight.
The Rustlers improve to 1-1 on the young season, with a big contest in Warner next Tuesday against the Monarchs—third ranked in Class B, while the Chargers will also travel east, to Ipswich for a match against the Tigers, also next Tuesday. You can catch the coverage of that contest on Country 95.3, with DT Meyer calling the play.
