City Of Pierre To Hold Educational Open House For Storm Shelter Next Wednesday

(KCCR) — It’s been open and in use so far during our busy severe weather season, but officials with the City of Pierre are giving a storm shelter in Griffin Park a formal grand opening next week. City of Pierre Project Manager Gidget Palmer says a ribbon cutting is also a part of the event that will include partners in the weather enterprise to help showcase the shelter…

The storm shelter also doubles as a community room available for rent to hold events and gatherings…

The storm shelter can be rented for hosting events for 150-dollars and rental forms are available at the Pierre Municipal Building. The 800-thousand dollar building was paid for through emergency management grants and funding from the City of Pierre. It can protect up to 400 people and can withstand winds up to 200 miles per hour. While it can be rented, it will always be available in case of severe weather. The open house is August 5th at 11 am.
