(KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has been invited again to serve alongside Tribal law enforcement in Fort Thompson during this weekend’s Crow Creek Dakota Nation Pow Wow. The Pow Wow is this weekend and Troopers will be sworn in Thursday after a training and orientation program. The troopers include some with drug detection canines; will be assisting Tribal police during the weekend event. A memorandum of understanding between the Highway Patrol and Bureau of Indian Affairs Crow Creek Agency is paving the way for the cooperative venture. Colonel Rick Miller with the South Dakota Highway Patrol says it’s been educational for the troopers involved to work with the Crow Creek Agency law enforcement. He says troopers will not only get to take part in the pow wow, but will learn about the tribe and its history, culture and traditions. Miller says the both law enforcement agencies will get to learn from each other.
