Down but Never Out, Pierre Governors Escape Mitchell to Semifinals

For three quarters the Pierre Governors struggled to score and were stuffed twice on fourth and goal to go situations. However, the Govs scored 28 points in the fourth quarter and took its first lead of the game with 2:30 left in the game beating the Mitchell Kernels 34-27 Thursday night in the Quarterfinals in Class 11AA.

The fourth quarter were two heavy weight boxers unleashing blow after blow looking for the knockout that would not come until the final touchdown grab from Aaron Booth in the corner of the end zone. Lincoln Kienholz was 15-19 for 172 yards and three touchdowns, two for Booth and another for Regan Bollweg, who broke the career receiving touchdown record previously held by Jack Maher. Kienholz also ran for near 70 yards and a score. Maguire Raske was 26 for 133 and a touchdown run.

The Governor defense stood tall again through three quarters after allowing an opening drive touchdown as Parker Phillips had just 31 yards on 12 carries. Although Phillips did have a touchdown run, catch and kick return as the Kernels finish the year at 3-7.

The Governors are now 7-2 on the season and will now face the Yankton Bucks next Friday in a rematch of Week Three where the Bucks knocked off the Govs in one of its two losses. Jon Winkler and Greg Dean will have the call on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com as well as on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
