Driver Identified In Fatal Sunday Crash

A Pierre man has been identified as the victim in a fatal roll over crash just northeast of Pierre. A late Sunday night crash took the life of 22 year-old Joseph Swartz. Swartz was traveling east on 202nd Street or Holly Road. As Swartz approached the intersection with Grey Goose road he lost control of the Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving. The car went across the center line the back on to the right side of the road. It left the road and rolled over. Swartz was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the Grand Prix. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is being investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Assisting at the scene were the Pierre Police Department and Hughes and Stanley County Sheriff’s Offices.
