Drought Conditions Expand Across West Central South Dakota

Drought conditions in central South Dakota are beginning to get worse. This week’s update of the U-S Drought monitor shows that D-1 Moderate drought is being found in central and southern Haakon County. Abnormally dry conditions are being seen in southern Ziebach, most of Hughes, Sully, Jones and Haakon Counties. Northwest Lyman and southeast Stanley Counties are also abnormally dry. Moderate drought in the Huron area has fallen back to abnormally dry conditions. Moderate drought is still present in connected parts of Brown, Spink, Faulk and Edmunds County. Abnormally dry conditions are also being seen in all or parts of Jackson, Potter, Walworth, McPherson, Edmunds, Faulk, Hand, Hyde, Jerauld, Sanborn, Beadle, Spink, Brown, Day, Clark, Codington, Hamlin, Kingsbury and Miner Counties.
