Ethanol Industry Leaders Pleased With Announcement Supporting Replacement Of Lost Ethanol Volumes Due To Small Refiners Waviers

(WNAX) — The Trump administration is taking action to begin reallocating lost biofuel volumes under the Renewable Fuel Standard. The President’s plan accounts for the lost gallons based on a three year average of all exempted gallons beginning with 2020 biofuel targets. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper says it’s a crucial step…

“And it’s something that we desperately need in the industry right now is, as you know, the ethanol industry and the farmers who supply our industry have really been suffering. We have been asking the Administration; asking President Trump to restore integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard and the number one way to do that is to redistribute or reallocate any volumes that are exempted for small refineries and so the plan being announced (this morning) does in fact do that.”
He says the President’s action follows what the RFS intends…

“And really what this means is, you know that the 15-billion gallon requirement that appears in the statute; the last few years has not actually been 15-billion gallons. It has been eroded to something less than 14-billion. This action ensures that 15-billion gallon number is what is actually required and what is actually blended.”
Cooper says all the work farmers and biofuel groups did to weigh in with President Trump was the key in getting this plan announced…

“We saw the farm groups and, and bio-fuel groups pull together like I haven’t seen in a very, very long time and when we rally the troops, we’ve got an incredibly powerful voice and you know, there was a, a very consistent message to the White House and to the President directly about the damage that’s been done from these small refinery exemptions.”
Cooper also thanked members of Congress for their support in talking to the President about the reallocation issue. He’s especially grateful to Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa for leading the efforts.
