Fort Pierre City Council Rejects Loan Application For New Bridge Project

(KCCR) — The Fort Pierre City Council rejected approval of a request to apply for a State Infrastructure Bank loan from the South Dakota Department of Transportation. The State DOT is offering Fort Pierre the option of a zero-interest loan for construction of a plaza area under the new Missouri River Bridge. Paying off the loan wouldn’t begin until a year after the bridge is finished or approximately 2025. Councilman Dave LaRoche thinks the Council is missing a step…

Councilman Greg Kenzy says he has concerns….

Councilman Todd Bernhard says the city would have flexibility…

The Fort Pierre City Council will likely take up the loan again at its meeting June 15th. The Department of Transportation wants to put the new Lt. Commander John Waldron Memorial Bridge out to bid by early July. Councilmen Kenzy, Bob Rickets, LaRoche and Larry Cronin voted against the application. Bernhard and Councilman Mike Wiegram voted in favor.
