(KCCR) — The City of Fort Pierre has lifted a restriction on water use, put in place Monday afternoon. Fort Pierre Utilities Superintendent Vern Thorson says water was returned to the line around 10 pm Monday night. It was back on for city residents around 2:30 Tuesday morning. The restriction on water use was put in place after a Mni Wiconi Rural Water System core pipeline on West Cedar Avenue in Fort Pierre sprung a leak. The core pipeline feeds Missouri River water from the Mni Wiconi Water Treatment plant north of Fort Pierre to multiple rural water systems including West River/Lyman Jones, Lower Brule and Rosebud. The total number of impacted customers is not known. Fort Pierre gets its water from West River/Lyman Jones. The cause of the leak is unknown.
