Yet another Region 2B doubleheader matchup took place Friday night in Onida, as the Sully Buttes Chargers hosted the Ipswich Tigers.
In the first game, a hot Tiger offense, and a cold night shooting for the Chargers girls led to a 46-29 Ipswich victory. The Tigers had three players in double figures, with Abby Grabowska scoring 17, Halle Heinz adding 14, and sister Kamryn Heinz ending with 13 points. The Tigers drained six three pointers for the night. The Chargers were led in scoring by Lauren Wittler with 11 points, but an unusually cold night from the field didn’t help Sully Buttes against the top girls team in Region 2B—now at 13-3, while Sully Buttes drops to 10-7.
The Charger boys had better results, rolling to a 55-30 win over the Tigers. Once again Nick Wittler—on his birthday—scored 17 points, while Jett Lamb had good rhythm in the low post and ended with 14 points—and Grant Johnson came alive, and scored 11 for the night. The Chargers led 24-12 at the half, and never looked back by outscoring Ipswich 31-18 in the second half, en route to their 13-3 record for the season. Ipswich’ record fell to 8-8 on the year.
Next up for Sully Buttes—a busy week. Monday the Charger girls will play a weather called makeup game from January, as they’ll travel to Philip to take on the Lady Scotties. Tuesday the girls and boys teams will be at Sunshine Bible Academy for a doubleheader against the Crusaders. Thursday it is back on the road as the Chargers will be in Faulkton—with the boys game first in that doubleheader, while the girls will play their last game on the regular season to follow. And on Saturday, the Charger boys will be in Warner for the Classic, and will face Aberdeen Christian at 6PM.
