Friday Rains Damage Georgia Morse Middle School With New Roof Under Construction

(KCCR) — The severe weather on Friday found yet another victim, the Georgia Morse Middle School in Pierre. Pierre School District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt addressed the damage at the Pierre School Board meeting Monday night…

“Last Friday during the big rain storm.  I suppose there were a few other leaks around town, but I’m guessing none quite as big as there were at the Middle School.  They were, we’re in the middle of a roofing project.  We thought the roofing project…at one time, thought that the roofing project was going to be done this Friday, and it wasn’t done and obviously they didn’t get things completely buttoned up, so we have…That’s why we have Mark Sommers is not here.  He’s currently meeting with the roofing company and the architects at the Middle School, looking at all the damage.”

Glodt calls the damage significant…

“It came through, all the way through two different classrooms from the top level and through into the cafeteria, so rather significant damage.  The good thing is, we have such a great crew.  They were up there Friday as soon as they were notified, as soon as they were up there that night probably past midnight and throughout the weekend, cleaning up and still cleaning up up there today.”
Glodt says the school year at Georgia Morse will start on time…

“We have a few days left, so it’s not gonna impact the education of the students at all, but pretty bad timing for a bad situation so.  I want to thank Mark, his staff.  Darla will have a lot of work in the future when it comes to getting everything fixed, replaced and taken care of, so.  Unfortunate situation, but we will be ready for school.”
Glodt did not have a cost estimate on how much damage was done.
