Game, Fish And Parks Department Reminding Users Of Oahe Downstream Rec Area To Use Highway 1804 To Avoid Construction

(KCCR) — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department is reminding users of the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area at the Oahe Dam that they will need to cross the Oahe Dam from the east to access the area. The South Dakota Department of Transportation is closing State Highway 1806 next week just north of the Game, Fish and Parks office to replace mainline cross pipes under the highway. The closure is only for a quarter mile, but it will require those wanting to use the amenities around the dam to use Highway 1804 on the east side of the Missouri River to access them. Highway 1806 will still be open from U-S Highway 14 north for two and a half miles to the G-F and P office. Access to the off-highway vehicle area, archery and shooting ranges, stilling basin and West Shore Lakeside Use Area will still be open, but must be accessed from the east side of the dam. The closure of Highway 1806 on the west side of the Missouri River is expected to last from September 8th to October 9th.
