Governors Host Trojans in Battle of Top Teams in Respective Classes

For the first time in 2020, the Pierre Governor Football team will be at home as they host 11A opponent West Central in a pair of 1-0 teams. This is the second year that both Pierre and West Central will meet in week two of the season.

The Governors had a 37-0 shutout of the Sturgis Scoopers in week one but West Central had similar success as they led at one point 42-0 before taking it 42-19 over Custer. The two offenses between the Governors and Trojans are near polar opposites as the Govs will spread it out and air it out like they have been for the last couple of years, while the Trojans will hardly pass the ball tonight. The flex-bone option is the style you see in the Army/Navy game. Gavin Koch threw two passes last Friday and Coach Vincent Benedetto says it was two more than he had planned on throwing.

Head Coach Steve Steele says this team is a better team than what they saw last season in Week Two…

Steele says though, this will play to the Governors strength…

And discipline will be the key for the Govs according to Steele…

The Governors and Trojans kick off at 7:00 at Hollister Field. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
