Governors Tennis Team Finish in Ninth at State

Coach Steve Steele said the goal was to get some guys to Saturday at the state Tennis Tournament. The goal was accomplished by plenty of Pierre players this weekend. Luke Leingang and Grant Judson finished in fourth place in their respective flights. Jace Wernsmann and the team of Judson and Matthew Hanson each won the Consolation Championships on Saturday as well. Four of the nine flights played on Saturday, where last year so no athlete from Pierre on the final day.

As a team, the Governors finished in ninth place with a score of 203. Sioux Falls Lincoln took home the team championship with an impressive 689 while O’Gorman had a 613. Third place was Rapid City Stevens with just a score of 395.

For the Governors, something that Steele and the rest of the school can be even more proud of, is receiving the Sportsmanship award. The Govs showed a lot of class throughout the tournament and took home the plaque that transcends sports.
