The Pierre Govs football team is state bound. The Govs were able to punch their ticket to the Dakota Dome for Fridays 11AA State Championship game with a 35-14 victory Friday night against Yankton.
Just like the week before the Govs would start this one hot and on their first drive they would go two plays for a touchdown. The touchdown play was a 48 yard pass from Peyton Zabel to Gage Gehring to make it 7-0. On the Govs third drive of the game Michael Lusk would get a chance to run the ball and score from 38 yards out to make it 14-0. After a stop on defense the Govs would send Jack Maher in to play quarterback and he would punch it in from six yards out to make it 21-0. On the sixth drive on the game in the second quarter Zabel would find Garrett Stout over the middle from 22 yards out to make it 28-0. After an interception the Govs defense would again hold strong and Govs would get the ball back and Hudson Rohrbach would score from 54 yards out to make it 35-0.
Yankton then would try to mount a comeback in the second half as Rex Ryken was able to make an 11 yard touchdown catch to make it 35-7. Yankton again would make another stop on defense and get the ball back and they would strike again a 10 yard touchdown pass to Ryken to make it 35-14. The Govs defense like they have all year would hold strong at the end of the game to win it 35-14.
The Govs will play the Harrisburg Tigers for the state championship at 7 pm on Friday from the Dakota Dome.
