House Committee Axes Bill To Allow Certain 18 Military Members To Drink Alcohol

(KMIT) — The House State Affairs Committee heard a bill that would drop the legal age to consume alcohol to 18 years old for certain active members of the military. House Bill 1132 was sponsored by Representative Tim Goodwin. He testified that if a person can fight for the country, then that person should be allowed to consume alcohol.

States that lower the drinking age from 21 would likely lose federal transportation funding. For that reason, Deb Mortenson of the Associated General Contractors testified against the bill.

House Bill 1132 was deferred to the 41st legislative day, effectively killing it.
