Hughes County Commissioners will start the New Year with a meeting just days after wrapping up business for 2017 on Friday. Commissioners will consider approval of the agenda and of minutes from meetings on December 18th and 29th. Two public hearings are on the agenda. The first is set for 5:30 PM for a revision to an ordinance regarding planning and building fee changes. The second is for a home moving permit. Commissioners will consider a contract with Baron in Old Business and have a number of items of New Business. They include electing a new Chairman and Vice Chairman and appointing county officials Rob Fines as Emergency Manager and Melissa Flottmeyer as Director of Equalization. Other beginning of the year county business for consideration includes jail and juvenile service contracts, liaison appointments and volunteer board appointments. The Commission will consider designating official depositories and the official newspaper. The will also consider approving a salary resolution, contingency transfers, and verified claims. Hughes County Commissioners will also get a report from County Manager Kevin Hipple and liaison reports, before meeting in executive session for a personnel matter. The Hughes County Commission meets tonight at 5:30 PM on the second floor of the Hughes County Courthouse in the Commission room. The meeting is open to the public.
