Hughes County To Hold Special Executive Session For Personnel Tonight

The Hughes County Commission is calling a special executive session meeting for tonight. The details of the meeting were not laid out on the agenda, other than to say it was for personnel under South Dakota Codified Law one dash 25 dash two parentheses one. That section of the Executive session law dictates quote “Discussing the qualifications, competence, performance, character or fitness of any public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee.” Hughes County is looking to replace Sheriff Mike Leidholt, who quickly accepted a role in the administration of Governor Kristie Noem as Secretary of the Corrections Department. That job for Leidholt begins next week. Leidholt has been Hughes County Sheriff for 25 years. The executive session is the only item on the agenda outside of usual procedures like the invocation, pledge and agenda approval. The meeting is scheduled for five pm and is open to the public until the Hughes County Commission votes to enter executive session. The meeting will be held in the second floor Commission room.
