Post 8 will return to the baseball diamond tonight when they head to Spearfish for a single 9 inning regional contest. The Legion baseball club from Pierre is coming off a long weekend where they finished 2-3 at the Rich Hinseth tournament. Post 8 has been thankful to have 2 days to relax before the game tonight due to several player injuries. The contest vs Spearfish tonight will mark the first of eight games for Post 8 in the next six days. Post 8 baseball coach Matt Sisk knows that this will be a tough matchup tonight like the other regional games.

The City of Pierre, in collaboration with the Sharpe Shooters Disc Golf Club will be celebrating the disc golf course renovations at Steamboat Park tonight at 6:45pm. The disc golf course will be adding concrete tee pads, new signage and other improvements. Sharpe Shooters Disc Golf Club member Jeff Fillipek feels once the course opens this evening it will be one of the premiere courses in the area. There will be a very short program. YMCA Disc Golf League play begins at 7:00pm.
The Pierre Pride 12U fastpitch team competed in their second tournament of the season this past weekend, earning a 3 and 1 record at the Interlakes Youth Fastpitch Invitational held in Madison.
The Pride opened the tournament with a 15-0 victory over team Venon from Mitchell. Caitlin Reimers pitched the shutout for the Pride. Flandreau fell to the Pride in the second game in a close 6-5 contest.
The Pride faced the Brandon Shock in a hard fought game, earnng a 6-4 win. Caitlin Reimers hurled a complete game for the Pride. In other action for the Pride, they fell to Brandon by a score of 7-4 after leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Pride are 6-2 in tournament play this season, with the next tournament on the schedule being the Lowell Rang in Mitchell, June 22 and 23.
The Pierre Area Running Club will host the Oahe Days Trail Run and Walk on June 22 at the scenic trails of LaFramboise Island State Park.The run will take place at 8 a.m. and will feature a 5K race and a 10K race for runners of all ages. Registration for the event will be 7-7:45 a.m. the morning of the race with a fee of $20 that includes a dri-fit t-shirt. The race will be a loop run on the scenic trails of LaFramboise Island State Park. There will be a free children's race for the kids under the age of 12 near the picnic area at the conclusion of the 5k-10k race.
The 16th annual Capital City Open Tennis Tournament will be held this Friday through Sunday in Pierre. The three-day tournament will feature some of the best tennis players, both boys and girls, in the area for some intriguing matchups. The tournament will also help younger athletes to gain experience. The tournament usually attracts 70-80 players from all ages. The event will feature a new 10-and-under division to help promote the game to younger athletes. The new division will cater to the skill sets of beginners to help get competitors hooked on the sport.
The Oahe Speedway will continue its racing season this weekend with the running of the Bully Dog Showdown on the River on June 22nd and June 23rd. Box, No Box, and Trophy classes will all compete for some large cash payout amounts. On top of the cash payouts their will be several bonus prizes given to drivers based on performance. Gates open Saturday at 8AM, Qualifying at 1PM, and Eliminations at 5PM. On Sunday gates will open at 8AM , qualifying is scheduled at 9AM, with eliminations at 1PM.

Two key members of South Dakota State's Summit League tournament champion baseball team were named Tuesday to the All-Midwest Region Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Representing the Jackrabbits on the honor squad were first-team relief pitcher J.D. Moore and second-team designated hitter Daniel Telford. South Dakota State, finished the 2013 season with a 35-24 overall record and made its first-ever NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.
