Jackley Responds To Noem Travel Claims

(WNAX) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is being criticized for a jump in travel costs for his office. A report to the Government Operations and Audit Committee saw travel costs increase from sixty thousand dollars in 2016, to over one hundred thousand dollars in 2017.

Jackley issued a press release this week claiming travel expenses for the AG’s office actually decreased. He then fired back claiming US Representative Kristie Noem has historically spent more on travel than other US Representatives. Personal travel records are not public information for Noem but overall travel for Noem’s office through three quarters of 2017 is over 74-thousand dollars. The average spend on travel by members of Congress is 35-thousand, according to Jackley’s release. The numbers cited by Jackley come from the website legistorm.com, a site that provides access to a wide range of disclosures from Capitol Hill.
