John Knox, a long time staple and supporter of area golf, along with serving as head coach for both boys and girls golf teams at T.F. Riggs, has stepped down from his position at the last school board meeting. Knox, who first started coaching in the 2009-10 seasons, thought that maybe now would be as good a time as any to step aside—but not without some reservations;
While coach Knox will miss the camaraderie of the teams, and the families, he said that his last birthday—on April 1st—was a reminder that he and wife Linda need to get out on the course together and enjoy retirement;
Looking back on his tenure as a head coach, Knox said that a lot of teams didn’t have to work around a natural disaster—the flood of 2011—but he felt that—in some ways—it made his team stronger, and better;
Knox didn’t rule out coming back as a volunteer to help the new coach if they either want, or need it, but he’s now focusing on playing in senior events around the state, and spending time with wife, children, and grandchildren.
