Legion Baseball Moves to Super Regional-Esque Postseason Format

South Dakota Legion Baseball Class A Postseason will look a little different next summer as the Region Tournaments are being nixed. Now, the Class A teams will be ranked with power points, as in the South Dakota High School Activities Association and Spring Baseball to determine matchups with 14 of the 15 teams.

The host team will be excluded from the 14 teams as they are automatically in the state tournament. The remaining 14 teams will be seed 1-14 with 1 playing 14, 2 playing 13 and so on, in a best of three to advance to the state tournament. The higher seed will host the lower seed.

Post 8 Senior Legion Head Coach Brian White is a big proponent of the new system…

White also talked about how every game no matter where they’re played will be used in the power points…

The Region with Pierre, both Rapid City teams, Sturgis and Mitchell, is one of the toughest regions to get out of, now it eliminates playing those teams every year, but White says it’s still going to be tough…
