Man Convicted Of 1958 Stanley County Murder Dies In Prison

A man convicted of first-degree manslaughter in Stanley County has passed away. Robert Brim was an inmate at the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. The 79 year-old passed away Sunday, January 7th at a Sioux Falls hospital after a lengthy illness. Brim received the life sentence in 1958 for shooting Irene Stoeser, who was pregnant at the time. Stoeser’s three year-old daughter was also shot and killed during the incident, however Brim was only charged with the death of Irene Stoeser. A four year-old son was also injured in the incident. Brim’s trial was held in Gettysburg after a change of venue was ordered in Stanley County. Brim was employed by Stoeser and her husband on their farm near Hayes. Brim pleaded guilty to the first degree manslaughter charge and was given life in prison.
