The Oahe JV Capitals earned two more wins this past weekend. Dre Berndt was first to find the back of the net for the Oahe Capitals as they hosted the Huron All-Stars for their Friday evening matchup. Within less than a minute the All-Stars would answer back with a goal to tie the game. Jaden Flor would score a goal to bring the Capitals ahead 2-1 with the assist from Cooper Swartz. The Capitals increased their lead with a goal from Ryan Wedin assisted by Berndt in the 2nd period and the final goal in the 3rd period from Turner Starr with the assists given to Cord Ellis and Wedin. Colin Lee recorded 19 saves on the night in the paint. Oahe almost doubled the shots on goal with 39 to Huron’s 20 shots on goal to capture the 4-1 win.
The momentum for the JV Caps from the Huron All-Stars win carried over to Saturday’s game in Aberdeen against the Cougars. Fifty seconds into the game, Keenan Howard got the Capitals on the board. The Capitals would never trail in the game. Swartz added another goal with the assist from Ashton Griese to round out the 1st period score 2-0. A back and forth scoring battle ensued during the 2nd period with Aberdeen getting two goals and the Caps getting a goal from Wedin early in the period with the assists to Jonathan Lyons and Ellis. Starr found the back of the net later on to bring the 2nd period score 4-2. The Capitals topped off the lead with two more goals in the third. An assist from Ashton Lee gave Starr another goal. Ellis scored the last goal of the game with the assist credited to Swartz. Both the Capitals and the Cougars recorded 29 shots on goal. Lee with 27 saves for the Oahe Capitals to apprehend another win with the final 6-2 score. The JV Capitals will take their 7-1 league record on the road to Mitchell to play the Marlins on Saturday night.
The Bantam A team took on the Brookings Rangers and defeat them 5-4.
Keller Herman got the Capitals going with the first goal of the game unassisted. At the end of the first period of play the score was tied 1-1. Herman does it again with the assist going to Corbin Beastrom. This set the tone for the battle for the win against two very talented teams. Barret Schweitzer scored at the 12:32 mark in the second period off an assist from Jarron Beck and Nick Gray with two more quick goals by Beastrom (assists recorded by Gray and Carter Gordon) and Carter Sanderson (assist credited to Herman and Jayce Anderson). The Capitals were up 5-2 at the end of the second period of play. Brookings would come back and score two goals in the 3rd period, but that wasn’t enough and the Capitals would get the win. The Capitals had 17 shots on goal to the Rangers 19 shots on goal. Spencer Anderson had 15 saves on the game.
Saturday the Capitals will travel to Mitchell. Their record for league play is 4-3.
