The Oahe Capitals fell on Friday night 5-4 to the Huron All Stars as the losing streak extended to four games before defeating the Aberdeen Cougars 5-2 on Saturday.
Both nights the Capitals were off to sluggish starts as they fell behind both the All Stars and Cougars by multiple goals. On Friday, the All Stars got two goals by Carson Duba in the first 33 seconds of the game and were down 3-0 after the first three and a half minutes in the game. However, trailing 3-0 the Caps didn’t roll over as they stormed back for three goals in the third, two by Elliot Leif to tie the game at 3-3. But the All Stars had two quick goals in the third period and Leif’s hat trick goal in the third wasn’t enough as the All Stars beat the Caps 5-4.
Saturday, without captain Spencer Wedin in the lineup and Cole Nelson hurting his ankle in the first shift of the game, the Capitals let in two quick goals in the first seven minutes trailing 2-0. Caden Davis was able to score in the final ten seconds of the first period off the face off win by Andy Gordon to pull within 2-1. The Caps struck for two goals to take a 3-2 lead after two periods by Ryan Wedin and Gordon. Davis and Clay Ambach sealed the win for the as Riley Briggs picked up 23 saves in net for his first varsity league game win in his career.
The Capitals are now 3-2-0-2 in league play and will travel to Mitchell on Saturday as they face the Marlins in their lone game of the next two weekends.
