Pierre Baseball Finally Hosts Home Opener

Just two days after defeating Rapid City Stevens in a doubleheader the Pierre Governors set up for their first home games of the season as they welcome in Mitchell to town.

The games tonight were still in flux yesterday afternoon even though they played in Rapid City on Wednesday. The snow stormed impacted the capital city area more so than out west which heading into the game on Wednesday they were waiting until Thursday to make the final decision. But all systems are a go for tonight in the home opener.

The Governors come into the game at 5-1 winning four in a row and in those four wins outscoring their opponents 66-8. The Govs have taken advantage of walks and errors and hit the ball well on Thursday for those two big wins in 15-7 and 16-0. However, this is a different team than the last two teams they’ve played. The Mitchell Kernels head into the contest at 8-2 and picked up a win against Harrisburg in their last contest 6-1 after dropping their only two losses in back to back games.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 this afternoon followed by game number two. Pregame will begin at 2:40 on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the calls.
