Pierre Baseball Hosts Region Three This Weekend

The Pierre Baseball team finished the regular season at 13-5 going 6-2 in the last two weekends of the season to claim the number three seed in the state playoffs and host Region Three this weekend. Two of the three teams heading to Pierre for the weekend were hear last weekend. Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Roosevelt will play in the second game while the Governors will open up the day’s action with Huron.

The chance of rain could postpone the game tomorrow which would push it back to Monday at the earliest if not on Tuesday if need be. If the game is played Tuesday, teams would have to utilize their pitchers wisely to keep them under the limit for them to be available for the next weekend. For the Pierre Governors and Coach Steve Gray, the pitching depth could be even more vital on those days…

For Gray, playing at home is also key to the weekend with the threat of rain…

The Governors have been the home team for only seven games this season. In those seven games, the Governors are 5-2 and of those five wins, they have won on the last at bat three times. While the coaching staff may prefer to win games in the top half of the inning, Gray said the resiliency of the team will be huge in the playoffs

The Governors will play the first game of the day, scheduled for tomorrow at 12. The second game will be played at 2:00 with the winners meeting at 4:00 and a chance to advance to the State Semifinals.
