Pierre City Commission Approves First Reading Of Fire Ordinances

Rules and regulations regarding recreational fires are in the process of changing in Pierre. Fire Chief Ian Paul is bringing updates to some city ordinances on the use of fire inside city limits…

Paul says another update would allow authorities to put your fire out if it’s causing a nuisance…

The size of fuel loads and recreational fires are also to be regulated under the block of proposed ordinances…

A fire put will have to at least be at least 10 feet from any structure including structures off your property according the ordinance updates…

Public Safety Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the changes are not about extinguishing summer fun…

The final portion of the ordinance revisions will require some sort of extinguishing equipment near the fire and that the fire must be constantly monitored. The proposed ordinances are posted on the City of Pierre website. Second reading of the ordinances is scheduled for the next Pierre City Commission meeting Tuesday.
