Pierre City Commission Increases Contribution To Outdoor Pool Project To 10-Million Dollars

(KCCR) — The Pierre City Commission is upping the city’s portion of payment for a new outdoor municipal pool. The city was planning on committing at least six-point-five million dollars to a basic pool design, with a Capital Campaign of volunteers helping raise the other six-point-five million needed for additional pool enhancements. However, low interest rates, brought on by tumbling markets due to the coronavirus pandemic are prompting city leaders to expand Pierre’s offering to 10 million dollars. Last March, the Pierre City Commission approved authority to bond up to 13-million dollars for the pool project. Capital Campaign Chairman Rod Woodburn says the pandemic has slowed progress with raising the second half of the funds need for the pool through the public/private partnership…

Woodburn did not say how much the Capital Campaign has raised so far. Donations to the Capital Campaign can be made at pierrepool.com. Final pool design is contingent on sponsorship and fundraising. Construction on the pool is expected to start next year.
