Pierre Governors Earn First Win Behind Kienholz Monster Night

The Pierre Governors are no longer winless on the season as they knocked off the Sturgis Scoopers 60-53 in Sturgis on Tuesday night.

Lincoln Kienholz and Grey Zabel dominated inside and outside for the Governors in the game as the freshman Kienholz picked up a game high 28 points while Zabel added another 17 as the duo combined for 45 of the 60 points on the night. The Govs trailed by five after the first quarter and by three at the break, but opened up a six point lead after the third to swing the momentum and the game in their favor.

Head Coach Terry Becker is excited to get this first win…

The Governors were without Paul Adam for the second straight game as he continues to battle the flu so Josh Rowe again got the start in place of Adam. Rowe and Peyton Schlekeway, while not scoring offensively for Pierre, Becker thought they did a great job defensively…

And Becker was impressed by the play of Kienholz in the win…

Becker hopes the win carries into Thursday as they travel to Mitchell looking for back to back wins against a winless Kernels team. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 from the Corn Palace.
