Pierre Governors Face Mitchell Kernels in ESD Contest

The Pierre Governors girls and boys basketball teams will both be in action tonight as the girls host the Mitchell Kernels as the boys will travel to the Corn Palace.

Now at 4-5, the Govs, in ninth place, will face the Kernels as they come in at 3-4 on the season. The Kernels avenged their first loss of the season against the Huron Tigers on Saturday in their last contest in Mitchell 60-52 over the Tigers. The Governor girls team is looking to end a three game losing skid as they’ve fallen back under .500 after improving to 4-2 on the young season. The Governors dropped all three games on the road before returning home tonight.

After Tuesday’s win in Sturgis, the Governors will look for back to back wins in Mitchell tonight. The Govs used a strong outside presence from Lincoln Kienholz and inside game from Zabel to pick up their first win of the season over the Scoopers. The Kernels lost in a dogfight on Tuesday going to double overtime against the Lincoln Patriots before falling 81-74. The Kernels are still winless at 0-7. However, when you look at the combined record of the teams they have faced, it’s a remarkable 49-15 so it’s been anything but an easy first seven games for the Kernels.

Today’s KCCR will be in Mitchell tonight as the boys battle at the Corn Palace. Game time is at 7:00 with pregame at 6:40 as Jon Winkler brings you the call.
