The Pierre Governors went into last night’s contest against Aberdeen Central looking to end their eight game losing streak. However, the Golden Eagles picked up their second win of the season 60-44 over the Govs.
The Govs came out ice cold to start each half as they found themselves down 12-0 in the final minute of the first quarter before they were able to make a basket. In the third quarter, the Govs were on the wrong end of a 20-2 run in the first six minutes of the third quarter which ultimately lead to their demise in the game for Pierre. Andrew Bergan scored the game high with 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles as Grey Zabel led the Govs for the second straight game with nine.
The Governors will travel to Watertown on Thursday to face a hot Watertown Arrow team who have won five straight games.
The Pierre Lady Governors have put themselves back into the SoDak 16 picture with a win last night over Aberdeen Central 48-42. The Lady Govs picked up their third win of the season and moved into 16th place in the Class AA standings moving into Thursday’s game.
Mack Rath scored the game for the Lady Govs dropping in 12 points while Emily Mikkelsen finished with 10 points for the Lady Govs now at 3-14. For the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles, Emma Yeske led all scorers with 17 points on the night as the Golden Eagles fall to 15th place in the standings.
