Pierre Governors Finish Weekend with Walk off, Go 3-1 in final Weekend

The Pierre Governors Baseball team came into the weekend as the number two seed and all but solidified themselves hosting a region next Saturday after going 3-1 in the final weekend of the season.

Friday, Garrett Stout did all himself as he threw six shutout innings while recording the only RBI in the game as he hit an RBI triple in the 1-0 win for the Govs over Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Stout allowed just four hits and struck out six in six innings of work while Matt Lusk came on in relief and picked up his third save of the season.

In Game Two of the night, the Governors were able to strike earlier and get more run support for Maguire Raske who threw six and a third innings allowing only one run in a 7-1 win for the Governors to sweep the Rough Riders. Once again, a Governor pitcher was nearing a complete game but Raske ran out of pitches before he could record the third and final out of the game. Lusk came back into pitch and finished off the job. For Lusk, he finished the regular season not allowing a single run to score, earned or unearned.

Saturday saw a different story for the Governors as they welcomed in Harrisburg who was sitting in eighth place in the standings. In Game one, the Governors lead 1-0 before Harrisburg was able to take a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning on a Seth Fischer single. In the bottom of the sixth and the tying run on base, River Iverson drove a two shot into the gap, however, Zeb Wede made a full out extension dive to keep the game a 2-1 score. An unearned run made it a 3-1 lead before the Governors were able to add one in the seventh but fell 3-2 in game one.

Game two, the Governors found themselves down 3-0 before a two run no doubt home run but Tyman Long which gave Harrisburg a 5-0 lead in the fifth. But, a four run fifth and then adding another two runs in the sixth, tied the game at 6-6 and the score held up until the eighth inning whenever and error on the shortstop gave the Governors a 7-6 win in extra innings to finish the weekend at 3-1 and 13-5 on the season.

The Governors should be at home this weekend in the regions round, but the bracket will not be available until midweek. You can, no matter what, listen to the Governors postseason games on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com with Jon Winkler on the calls.
