The first official day for soccer games will be played today and the Pierre Governors are taking advantage of just that. Both the boys and girls soccer teams will head to Brandon for the first game of the season.
The boys will play at 4:00. Last year, the Govs opened the season with a 2-0 loss to the Lynx. This time, Pierre will look to open up the season on the right foot with a big win. The Govs won just two games last year and scored just five goals all season. They were eliminated by Sioux Falls Washington, the eventual state champions in the first round.
The two time defending state champions, Pierre Governor Girls’ soccer team will play at 6:00 against the Lynx looking to continue the trend as they look for a third straight title. Janaina Zanin returns for her senior season as the team’s second leading goal scorer from last year behind graduated Emily Mikkelsen. Zanin had eight goals for the Governors while Mikkelsen led the team with 18 of the 43 scored.
You can listen to both games today from Brandon with pregame of the boys game starting around 3:40 and kickoff at 4:00 on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com with Jon Winkler on the call.
