A Pierre man is facing eight charges after his arrest Sunday on theft and drug charges. Just after two AM an officer on patrol noticed a male subject running from a business in the 1500 block of East Wells Avenue. The individual was seen with a bottle of liquor in each hand. Captain Jason Jones says due to the time of day after liquor sales ended and the subjects suspicious actions, the office called for back-up and yelled at the subject to stop. That’s as the officer began a foot pursuit for the subject. The male was seen tossing the alcohol bottles a few blocks south where officers caught up to him then placed the subject in custody. A follow up investigation revealed the alcohol discarded by the subject was stolen. Police arrested 20 year-old Jaret Woodenknife for the alcohol theft. Woodenknife was found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia during a search later on. Woodenknife was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges of petty theft under 400-dollars, obstruction of an officer, ingestion of a substance to become intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance or drug, ingestion as a felony, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, possession or use of drug paraphernalia and underage consumption of alcoholic beverages.
