Pierre Man Sentenced To Time Served On Federal Firearms Charge

(KCCR) — A Pierre man has been sentenced for a federal gun violation. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 22 year old Nathan Doherty was sentenced to time served, which equaled 38 days in custody, along with 18 months of federal probation and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund of 100-dollars. As a part of sentencing Doherty also forfeited a firearm. Doherty was indicted by a federal grand jury nearly a year ago and pleaded guilty in September. Parsons says Doherty was involved in an incident in Pierre on May 11th of 2018 in which he knowingly was an unlawful user of a controlled substance. At the time Doherty had a Remington 870 Express shotgun. Marijuana, marijuana wax, multiple baggies and a scale were found in Dohety’s bedroom. Doherty was changed in the incident with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. He was sentenced on Monday.
