Pierre Police Arrest Man On Drug Charges After He Ran During Traffic Stop

A Pierre man was arrested when he attempted to flee from police during a traffic stop. Pierre Police Captain Derald Gross says an officer pulled a car over near Euclid and 5th Street on Wednesday. When the vehicle stopped, a passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to get away. Officers gave chase on foot and apprehended 21 year-old Lane Maupin. Maupin was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the time. Maupin is charged with ingesting, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Hughes County Jail.  The driver was not charged and released.
