Pierre Police Investigate Road Rage Incident Involving Possibly Gunfire

A Pierre man was arrested Friday on numerous charges relating to an incident of road rage involving cars, guns and reports of shots fired. Officers were alerted to two vehicles driving erratically in the area of Garfield and Wells Avenue then traveling north along the US Highway 14/83 truck route around 5:45 PM. Additional reports to police a short time later indicate that a gun may have been brandished and possibly fired near North Airport Road. Officers located four teenage victims near North Airport Road and Table Street. Captain Jason Jones with the Pierre Police Department says statements made by the victims indicate that a traffic movement by one of the vehicles escalated into some type of argument with the occupants of the second vehicle. As police continued to investigate, information took officers to the 200 block of Seneca Street. There, they attempted to make contact with the individuals in the car involved who may have had a weapon. Pierre police have identified the car’s passenger, 26 year old Austin Ensworth as the suspect in possession of the firearm. Ensworth was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm at a structure/motor vehicle, aggravated assault and discharging a firearm within a municipality. Jones says no one was injured and the incident remains under investigation.
